R. M. Media, in collaboration with human rights experts, hosted a webinar titled “The United Nations Human Rights Council’s Independent Investigation Mechanism: A New Step Towards Accountability for Human Rights Violations and Combating Gender Apartheid in Afghanistan.”

The webinar took place on Monday, 13 October, via Zoom.

Speakers Ehsan Qaane and Sanga Siddiqi discussed topics including the legal significance and background of the investigation mechanism, its role in pursuing war crimes and seeking justice for victims in Afghanistan, and its function in combating discrimination and gender apartheid under the Taliban regime.

The event aimed to raise public awareness about international accountability mechanisms and their role in documenting and addressing human rights violations in Afghanistan.

Recently, the UN Human Rights Council adopted a resolution establishing an independent investigation mechanism on Afghanistan. The mechanism is tasked with systematically documenting widespread human rights violations, war crimes, and crimes against humanity, while providing avenues for holding perpetrators accountable and supporting victims.
