A Daughter in Zabul Died by Suicide Over Forced Marriage

Local sources in Zabul report that a 21-year-old girl in the Namro area near Kalat city died by suicide after ingesting poison.

Sources say her family forced her into marriage without her consent a few days earlier. She refused and, unable to accept the marriage, ended her life.

Another source adds that the girl was originally from Nawbahar district but had been living in Kalat with her family for several years.

Forced marriages, denying girls the right to choose their partners, poverty, domestic violence, and other social problems in Afghanistan often push young women toward suicide.
