Samira Nawa, an Afghan-Danish politician and member of Denmark’s Social Liberal Party, has been appointed as the country’s new Minister for Climate and Energy following a government reshuffle.

Born to a family of Afghan refugees and raised in the northern Danish city of Aalborg, the 38-year-old politician was serving as a member of the Danish Parliament prior to her appointment and is widely recognized as a prominent figure in Danish politics. She has been actively involved in shaping policies on climate action, energy transition, and economic development.

Nawa holds a master’s degree in economics and worked in various public institutions and research organizations before entering politics. Over the years, she has established herself as a strong advocate for sustainable energy solutions, climate policy reforms, and evidence-based economic policymaking.

She assumes office at a time when energy security, the accelerating impacts of climate change, and the implementation of green transition policies remain among Europe’s most pressing challenges and strategic priorities.
