The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has issued a warning about the high risk of sudden flash floods in eastern and southeastern provinces of Afghanistan.

In a statement shared on the social media platform X, the FAO said that the warning applies to the provinces of Nangarhar, Kunar, Laghman, and Nuristan in the east, as well as Khost, Paktika, Paktia, and Logar in the southeast.

According to forecasts, between July 13 and 15, seasonal monsoon rains may trigger devastating floods in these regions.

The FAO also noted that the risk could extend to parts of central and northeastern Afghanistan.

In recent years, sudden flash floods caused by heavy monsoon rains have resulted in significant loss of life and property across the country. The United Nations has warned that due to climate change, the frequency and intensity of such disasters are likely to increase.
