Taliban publicly flog three men and one woman in Parwan province
In a public display of corporal punishment, the Taliban's Supreme Court has flogged three men and one woman in Parwan province. The individuals were punished on charges of “leaving home unlawfully and sodomy” and each received 39 lashes, according to an official statement from the court.
The statement also confirmed additional sentences of imprisonment: two of those punished received six-month prison terms, while the other two were sentenced to one year each.
Since their return to power, the Taliban have increasingly administered public corporal punishment, particularly floggings, which have drawn criticism from international human rights organizations. According to Human Rights Tolerance, between August 15, 2021, and June 30, 2024, the Taliban have subjected at least 1,202 men and women to public penalties, including executions, stonings, face blackening, and floggings for various charges.
