Taliban arrest nine individuals in Baghlan and Helmand

The Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice announced on Monday, January 23, that its officials detained eight individuals in Baghlan province and one in Helmand province.

According to the statement, the eight individuals were arrested in the Deh Salah district of Baghlan on charges of gambling, which the ministry described as “a defiance of divine commands.”

Additionally, one individual in Helmand province was detained on accusations of practicing “witchcraft.”

Since the enactment of the Taliban’s morality enforcement laws, reports of arbitrary arrests across Afghanistan have significantly increased.
