U.S. House of Representatives Passes Bill to Cut Financial Aid to the Taliban

The United States House of Representatives on Monday, June 23, 2025, passed a bill aimed at preventing American taxpayers’ money from reaching the Taliban and other terrorist groups.
The bill, titled the “No Tax Dollars for Terrorists Act,” was introduced on January 9, 2025, by Representative Tim Burchett, a Republican from Tennessee.
On Monday, Burchett announced in a post on the social media platform X that the bill had successfully passed the House and is now awaiting consideration in the Senate.
Previously, oversight bodies — including the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) — and several members of Congress had warned that a portion of the humanitarian aid sent by the United States to Afghanistan may ultimately end up in the hands of the Taliban. According to reports, the group has been receiving weekly cash shipments amounting to approximately $40 million.
If approved by the Senate and signed into law, this legislation would formally block any future U.S. taxpayer funds from indirectly or directly benefiting terrorist organizations, including the Taliban.
