*OCHA: 39% of Afghan families facing water shortages*
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has reported that 39% of families in Afghanistan are struggling with water shortages due to the drying up of resources.
In a newly published report, OCHA stated that humanitarian crises in Afghanistan are worsening, with 22.9 million people in need of humanitarian assistance.
According to the report, 23% of the Afghan population relies on untreated water sources, exacerbating health risks. Additionally, 28% of the population uses unhygienic sanitation facilities, further increasing the spread of infectious diseases.
OCHA noted that in 2025, humanitarian partners will require $264 million to provide water, sanitation, and healthcare services in Afghanistan. However, only $8.4 million has been secured so far.
The report emphasized that the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan has intensified since 2021, placing unprecedented pressure on the population.
