Climate change increases need for humanitarian aid in Afghanistan
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reports that climate crises have significantly increased humanitarian needs in Afghanistan.
In a recent statement, OCHA revealed that floods in 2024 impacted over 170,000 people across all 34 provinces. Among those affected, 500 people lost their lives, and 800 were injured.
OCHA emphasized that while humanitarian aid is crucial, it alone is insufficient to address Afghanistan’s challenges, as the country is also grappling with severe climate crises.
Afghanistan is currently ranked among the 10 most climate-vulnerable countries in the world, highlighting the urgent need for both immediate assistance and long-term climate resilience strategies.
