Qatar has awarded the 2025 “Anti-Corruption and Innovative Youth” International Prize to Afghan education activist Matiullah Wesa.

The award was presented by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, at a ceremony held in Doha in cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). Wesa, founder and head of Afghanistan’s Pen Path (Qalam Lar) Foundation, was honored for his innovative efforts to promote education and his commitment to transparency.

The prize aims to strengthen global dedication to integrity, innovation, and the fight against corruption.

Matiullah Wesa is widely known for his advocacy for education in Afghanistan. Nearly two years ago, he was imprisoned by the Taliban due to his support for girls’ education and was released after spending one year in detention.

The golden award is presented annually by the Emir of Qatar to one individual selected from among nominees worldwide who have made significant contributions to combating corruption.
