Afghanistan defeats Greenland, claims third place in Brazil futsal tournament

Afghanistan’s national futsal team clinched third place in a four-nation tournament in Brazil after defeating Greenland 4-2 in a dramatic match.
The third-place playoff took place on Sunday, March 10, in Brazil, ending with Afghanistan’s victory.
The first half of the match remained goalless, but in the second half, Hossein Mohammadi opened the scoring for Afghanistan. However, Greenland quickly responded with two goals, taking the lead.
In the final moments of the game, Afghanistan’s goalkeeper, Mohammad Jawad Safari, stepped onto the field and scored the equalizer, bringing the match to a 2-2 tie. The game was then decided by a penalty shootout.
Afghanistan triumphed 4-2 in penalties, with Safari playing a key role in the victory.
Throughout the tournament, Afghanistan previously defeated Greenland 5-4 but suffered losses against Brazil (4-1) and Iran (4-3).
