Afghan author Manizha Bakhtari has recently published A Daf for Golsa (Dafi Baraye Golsa) through Parnian Publishing. Written in Persian, the novel tells the story of three generations of women in Afghanistan over the past fifty years.

This is Bakhtari’s third novel, spanning 310 pages across six chapters. Her previous works, also in Persian, include Four Daughters of Zoroaster (Char Dukhtar-e Zardosht) and Sweet Ashes (Khakestar-e Shirin).

Bakhtari’s writing often focuses on the lives of Afghan women navigating war, violence, and social constraints. By blending realism with touches of magical realism, she immerses readers in the inner worlds and everyday experiences of her characters.

A Daf for Golsa portrays women’s experiences against the backdrop of Afghanistan’s historical, political, and social changes. As in her earlier works, Bakhtari emphasizes personal experiences and the profound impact of history on family life.
