A human rights advocacy group has announced that it has reached an agreement with the University of Regina in Canada, under which 30 Afghan female students stranded in Qatar will be relocated to Canada to continue their education.

According to a report by Global News, the group has successfully raised between $140,000 and $500,000 USD to cover the tuition fees required by the University of Regina for these students.

The report states that the university has already expressed its readiness to welcome these young women.

Following the suspension of U.S. financial aid to Afghanistan, many support programs for Afghan girls—especially in the field of education—came to a halt. As a result, these 30 female students, who had been stranded in Qatar, were left facing an uncertain future.

Some time ago, U.S. media also reported that after the termination of USAID under Donald Trump’s orders, the scholarships previously provided to students of the American University of Afghanistan were also discontinued.

Since the Taliban’s return to power, girls’ education beyond grade six—as well as their access to universities—has been officially banned across Afghanistan.
