The Orange Blossom Festival of Nangarhar

Nangarhar is famous for its orange blossoms. Every year, during this fragrant season, the "Orange Blossom" spring poetry festival is held. It’s not only a celebration for poets, writers, and literature lovers — it’s also a proud symbol of Nangarhar’s cultural identity.

Inspired by this tradition, other provinces have started hosting similar gatherings: the plane tree festival in Khost, the almond blossom in Zabul, the apple blossom in Maidan Wardak, the redbud flowers in the northern provinces, the pomegranate blossom in Kandahar, and riverside poetry readings in Kunar — all rooted in this beautiful cultural custom.

Nangarhar’s climate is especially suitable for orange cultivation. As a result, orange orchards are widespread here, and the orange blossom is considered one of the natural and cultural treasures of this province.
