Sima’s Song Wins Audience Award at Bilbao International Festival
Sima’s Song, directed by Roya Sadat, has won the Audience Award at the Festival de Cine Invisible in Bilbao, Spain. The festival is one of the most prestigious cinematic events with a focus on social and humanistic films, held annually in Spain.
The film attracted the largest audience across three consecutive screenings, receiving widespread acclaim from viewers.
Sima’s Song portrays the struggles of Afghan women during the 1970s. The film was originally planned to be produced in Kabul, but following the Taliban’s return to power in 2021, the director and cast were forced to leave the country. Ultimately, the production took place in Athens, Greece, with collaboration from Afghan and European artists.
The film has previously been showcased at multiple international festivals and is recognized as one of the most significant Afghan cinematic productions in recent years.
