The leader of Afghanistan’s robotics team, Roya Mahboob, has announced that she has been awarded the "Courage Award" by the Liberty Science Center in New Jersey, USA, for her contributions in the field of science and technology.

Mahboob expressed her happiness upon receiving the award and described it as a source of pride for all Afghan girls. She also thanked the center for recognizing and appreciating their efforts.

It is worth noting that the Afghan Girls’ Robotics Team, which consists of nine members, left the country after the Taliban regained power in Afghanistan.

With the support of Qatar, the team was evacuated from Kabul to Doha via a special flight.

In 2017, the team won silver medals in a U.S.-based robotics competition. In 2021, its members were also included in the list of Asia’s top 30 scientists, inventors, and entrepreneurs.

This award comes at a time when, under three years of Taliban rule, women and girls in Afghanistan have been stripped of their fundamental rights.
