Taliban to conduct public execution in Paktia province

The Taliban authorities in Paktia province have announced that they will carry out a public execution   on Wednesday, November 13, at the Gardez sports stadium, located in the provincial capital. According to a statement from the provincial media office, the execution is set to take place in front of a public audience, and residents of Paktia have been invited to witness the event.

The individual scheduled for execution has been convicted of murder, though further details regarding the case have not been disclosed. As part of the event's restrictions, the Taliban has prohibited attendees from bringing cameras or mobile phones to the stadium, banning all forms of photography or recording at the scene.

Public executions and corporal punishments have become increasingly common since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan in August 2021, drawing condemnation from human rights organizations. These groups have voiced serious concerns about the Taliban's judicial practices, calling on the international community to intervene and uphold basic human rights. The return of such practices has further deepened concerns over the state of justice and human rights under the Taliban regime.
