Taliban publicly flog a man and a woman in Ghazni on charges of "Illicit Relations"
The Taliban publicly flogged a man and a woman in the Muqur district of Ghazni province, accusing them of "illicit relations." According to a statement from the Taliban’s Supreme Court on Monday, November 11th, each individual received 39 lashes in a public setting.
The court also sentenced the man to one year in prison and the woman to five years.
Since returning to power, the Taliban has intensified the use of corporal punishments, particularly public floggings, as part of their legal system. Last week alone, the Taliban reportedly flogged nearly 40 people in various provinces across Afghanistan, a practice that has raised international concerns regarding human rights and the judicial process under Taliban rule.
