UNESCO: 1.5 million Afghan girls deprived of education under Taliban rule

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) reported that 1.5 million girls in Afghanistan have been barred from education due to Taliban restrictions.
In its latest report, UNESCO warned that if the Taliban’s ban on girls’ education continues until 2030, the number of girls deprived of schooling could exceed four million.
Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have also expressed deep concerns over the Taliban’s ongoing restrictions on women’s rights in Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid, in a statement marking International Women’s Day, claimed that the group has ensured all women's rights in accordance with Islamic law and Afghan culture.
