Taliban flog five people, including a woman, in Nangarhar, Paktika, and Kunduz
The Taliban’s Supreme Court has announced that five individuals, including a woman, were publicly flogged in Nangarhar, Paktika, and Kunduz provinces for alleged illicit relations and theft.
According to the statement, a woman and two men were lashed 39 times in Kuz Kunar district, Nangarhar, after being convicted of adultery. They were also sentenced to prison terms: the woman received two years, one man three and a half years, and the other one and a half years.
In Khoshamand district, Paktika, another man was flogged 39 times and sentenced to six years in prison for illicit relations. Meanwhile, in Aliabad district, Kunduz, a man convicted of theft was sentenced to one year in prison and 39 lashes.
This comes as the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has condemned public floggings and executions in Afghanistan, urging the Taliban to halt such punishments.
