Asif Durrani: Taliban's interpretation of Islam is terrifying

Asif Durrani, Pakistan's former special representative for Afghanistan, has criticized the Taliban's interpretation of Islam, describing it as "terrible" and dominated by tribal laws. In a recent interview, Durrani emphasized that Afghanistan is part of the global community and a signatory to international conventions, urging the Taliban to modernize their approach.

He highlighted that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has unanimously called on the Taliban to lift restrictions on women's work and education, but the group continues to promote what he termed "a terrible model of Islam."

Durrani was appointed as Pakistan's special representative for Afghanistan in May 2023 but was recently dismissed due to the Pakistani government's dissatisfaction with his performance.
