Tehran begins identification of Afghan immigrants region by region
Ahmad Qayoumi, the governor of Tehran, has announced the start of a region-by-region identification process for undocumented foreign nationals, focusing on Afghan immigrants living in the capital. This initiative is part of a broader plan by the National Migration Organization to regulate the presence of foreign nationals in accordance with Iranian laws.
Qayoumi stressed that the government will strictly control the presence of foreigners and is committed to enforcing regulations on illegal immigration. The deportation of undocumented individuals will be actively pursued, with Iranian authorities previously warning that employing or housing undocumented Afghan immigrants is now considered a crime.
The move follows a recent statement by Iran’s police chief, who vowed to deport two million illegal foreigners by the end of this year. This crackdown comes amid increasing pressure on Afghan refugees living in Iran.
