The Taliban has reportedly instructed money exchangers in Herat to stop publicly sharing the dollar exchange rate following a recent surge in its value against the Afghan currency, according to local sources.

For the past two days, the Herat Money Exchangers Union has refrained from publishing the dollar rate, which was previously updated in real-time on their Telegram channel. Currently, only the exchange rate for the Iranian toman is being shared.

Sources suggest that the Taliban has pressured the union to halt the frequent updates on the dollar rate. However, the Taliban has yet to make an official statement regarding this restriction in Herat.

This development comes after a recent incident in Kabul, where six money exchangers in Sarai Shahzada market were reportedly beaten and detained by Taliban authorities. The crackdown in Kabul was linked to the rising dollar rate, which has been a cause of concern amidst Afghanistan's ongoing economic challenges.

Economic experts warn that such restrictions could further destabilize public confidence in the Taliban's financial system, adding to the hardships faced by citizens already struggling under mounting economic pressures.
