The Afghanistan Security Observatory reported at least 35 security incidents across the country in August 2024. This represents a 36% decrease in attacks by anti-Taliban groups compared to the previous month of July.

According to the observatory's findings, 24 of the incidents were carried out by the National Resistance Front, 5 by the Afghanistan Freedom Front, 3 by ISIS-K (Daesh Khorasan), and one by the Afghan People's Authority Front. Two other cases, with unidentified perpetrators, were reported in Kabul and Nangarhar provinces.

The report claims that anti-Taliban forces and ISIS-K claimed responsibility for killing 69 Taliban members and injuring 52 others during this period. Additionally, seven civilians were killed, and 18 were wounded in ISIS attacks in August.

However, the observatory noted that only 17 of the 35 incidents could be independently verified through official sources and documentation. The majority of the confirmed incidents occurred in Kabul and Herat, areas that have seen intensified conflict.

Despite these ongoing security challenges, Taliban officials continue to assert that Afghanistan is fully secure and deny the presence and activity of ISIS within the country.
