Indian Prime Minister: Delhi is trying to connect to Afghanistan and Central Asia through Chabahar port

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that Delhi will endeavor to connect Afghanistan and Central Asia through the Chabahar port, thereby expanding trade exchanges in the region. This development follows the recent signing of a 10-year contract between India and Iran for the operation of the Chabahar port.

In an interview with Indian media, Modi emphasized the significance of this contract, viewing it as a critical step towards enhancing regional connectivity. The Prime Minister stated that India is dedicated to promoting regional connectivity, trade, and commerce, not only via the Chabahar port but also through the North-South International Transport Corridor and the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor.

The Hindustan Times reported Modi's commitment to these initiatives on Monday, May 31. The 10-year bilateral agreement, signed on Monday, May 24, allows India to export commercial goods to Afghanistan and Central Asian countries. This agreement facilitates India's connection to the North-South International Transport Corridor and its railway network, reinforcing the strategic and economic ties between these regions.
