Taliban’s education ban imprisons Afghan girls in darkness

On the occasion of International Education Day, the Movement for Women’s Freedom issued a statement condemning the Taliban's ban on education, stating that it has effectively imprisoned Afghan girls in darkness.

The statement emphasized that education is a fundamental human right. However, by prohibiting girls from pursuing education, the Taliban not only deny this right but also reject the identity and potential of half of Afghan society.

The movement warned that depriving women of education leads society toward intellectual and economic isolation.

The statement called on the international community and global organizations to exert pressure on the Taliban to reopen schools and universities for girls.

For over three years, the Taliban have kept the doors of schools and universities closed to girls. Recently, they extended the ban to include health sciences education centers.
