Iran criminalizes employment and housing of undocumented Afghan immigrants, plans mass deportations
Iran's police chief, Ahmad Reza Radan, has announced that employing or renting property to undocumented Afghan immigrants is now a criminal offense, as the country steps up its efforts to deport up to two million illegal foreigners by year-end.
Radan revealed that 500,000 undocumented Afghans have already been deported, with 250,000 more leaving voluntarily. He warned businesses and landlords that legal action would be taken if they are found to be assisting illegal immigrants.
The move comes as Iran faces increasing pressure from a surge of Afghan refugees, with the government citing concerns over national security and economic strain. Radan urged the public to cooperate with authorities and report any violations.
