Education activist Ahmad Fahim Azimi released after 11 months in Taliban prison
Ahmad Fahim Azimi, an education activist, has been released from Taliban custody after 11 months of imprisonment. His colleague, Sediqullah Afghan, announced the news on Facebook today, thursday, 26th of September.
Azimi and Afghan, both affiliated with the educational organization "Fekr Betar," were arrested in October 2023 by the Taliban's 40th intelligence unit in Kabul. While Afghan was released on April 9 through an amnesty order from the Taliban leader, Azimi remained imprisoned in Polcharkhi prison.
Last week, Amnesty International called for Azimi’s release, warning that he was being held on false charges after an unfair trial and expressing concern about his deteriorating mental health.
